Portakabin strengthens team in Scotland

Booming business has seen Portakabin make four key appointments to its Paton Plant team, based in Whistleberry Road, Hamilton. Alan Hyde, Antonio Pontiero, Derek McBride and Gordon Stewart have all taken senior roles within the business to support the organisation’s growth in Scotland and ensure customers continue to receive high levels of service.

Alan Hyde (36) from Newton Mearns, Glasgow, has taken the position of Business Development Manager for Healthcare. Alan previously worked as an account manager at the Michelin Tyre Company in Stoke-On-Trent.

In his new role, Alan will be responsible for Portakabin projects in the healthcare sector, and identifying opportunities for the company in this area.

He said, ‘I’m delighted to be working for such a well-known and well-established company as Portakabin. I hope to achieve a great deal and am excited by the prospect of playing a key role in driving the company’s business forward in this important market area.’

Antonio – or Tony as he is otherwise known – Pontiero (28) from central Hamilton has been appointed as Business Development Manager for the One-Stop-Shop solutions for hire offered by Portakabin. These include everything from climate control systems and high quality furniture, to access facilities and fire and security alarms.

Tony will initially be focussing on Portakabin Aircare, which provides complete climate control and air conditioning systems, and Portakabin Protecta, which offers the latest fire and security systems for buildings.

Tony joins the company from Airth Castle Hotel in Falkirk where he was Sales & Marketing Manager. He said, ‘This is a brand new role both for myself and for Portakabin in Scotland so I’m very much looking forward to getting stuck in to what I’m sure will be a very challenging and rewarding job.’

Derek McBride (27) has been appointed as Portakabin Events Manager in Scotland. He will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation’s Events division, while also identifying opportunities to grow and develop the business.

Derek brings with him a wealth of experience in the events sector having worked as a sound and light engineer before moving to Signature Industries Ltd. During his time with Signature he helped the company’s Scottish Division grow from eight to thirty-three employees, as well as introducing new offices in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

He commented, ‘This is a very challenging and exciting job for me. Portakabin has already experienced great success as a key supplier to the events industry and my aim is to build on this success and take it to the next level.’

Gordon Stewart (26), from Wishaw joined Portakabin in 1999 as an office assistant at the company’s Scottish Head Office in Hamilton, while studying for his BSc in Quality Management. He has since worked in a number of different positions within the company, including Hire Coordinator at the Aberdeen Hire Centre. Gordon then moved to the Scottish Head Office, during which time he helped the Glasgow Hire Centre team to achieve second place in the Portakabin Hire European League Table.

In his new role as Hire Manager for Portaloo in Scotland, Gordon will be responsible for developing and growing the business throughout the country. He said, ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for me. Working for such a well-known brand as Portaloo will allow me to broaden the skills I have gained in my previous roles and I am looking forward to my new challenge.’

In their spare time, Alan and Tony are both keen sports enthusiasts with both enjoying playing football. Alan also enjoys playing hockey and rugby. Gordon is a dedicated member of his local gym, while Derek enjoys spending his spare time renovating old Volkswagen vehicles.
